Narrative:
Best Summer Ever
A year ago, I’ve experienced the most
productive and memorable summer ever in my whole life. There was this
opportunity offered by an agency located mainly in Manila to go to the United
States of America (USA) with a specific location of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The visa that they offered was a J1 Visa or also called as Student Visa, which
allows student to work in USA in a limited time of three months. I, as an
on-going fourth-year student by that time was in doubt of the offer for I’m afraid
that maybe it was just a scam and in fact a graduating student has a lot of necessities
to be made. But due to the influence of my friends who were really interested, I
was convinced. The preparation was tough and hassle for there are a lot of requirements
and steps to follow. It includes the getting of a passport and the most
knee-shaking part was the interview in the US Embassy. Thank goodness I fulfilled
and accomplished all of it. So it is really a “Hello America!”
It was my first time to go outside of the
country. It was also my first time to be apart to my family for the longest
time. It was also my first time to work. In my first and a half month stay, I have
worked for two jobs. My main job was a rental attendant in Cherie’s Bikes and
Blades Rentals (CBBR). I am responsible for fitting guests with rental
equipment, advising them in proper use and care of equipment, and monitoring
the return of equipment. Also maintaining a clean and organized rental shop.
Compute and record the cost and accept payments. I worked as a part-time in a
factory of US Surf as an inventory associate, that works with the company
supply chains to make sure that inventory is on route, on shelves and
well-stocked. Also record keepers for materials, report creators and supply
trackers. After a while, I resigned to CBBR due to my manager’s unfair
treatment. By that, I also gave up the factory. With perseverance and luck
maybe, I was hired to be a housekeeper in the Best Western Oceanfront VA. I am responsible
for making sure all assigned areas of the hotel are clean, neat and tidy. Assist and accommodate the needs of the
guests. After shift, I worked as a part-time sales associate in seven-eleven (7-11).
In which I provide prompt, efficient and courteous customer service. Maintain a
clean, customer friendly environment in the store. Ring customer sales on an
electronic cash register. Receive cash from customers and give correct changes.
Perform all regular cleaning activities and other tasks that are included on
job assignments. Yes, I have to work two jobs to survive the living expenses
and for travel purposes especially on rest days. In my new jobs, I enjoyed my
stay for I have gained new friends. The managers and inspectors were also
taking good care of me and treated me well.
It felt that time was ticking so fast. For
the time came that I needed to go back to the Philippines. It was hard to say
goodbyes to the people that became a part of my best summer. Also, the memories
and the place. Working in America made myself to become a strong independent
woman, to exchange cultural differences, and to gain unforgettable memories and
friends.

Descriptive:
The Country’s
Eagle
Rodrigo Roa Duterte, known as “Digong” and
dubbed as “The Punisher”, for his strong image and voice to influence and
discipline everyone. He was a Mayor of Davao City, a highly urbanized city on
Mindanao islands for seven terms, totally more than twenty-two (22) years. He has
also served as Vice- Mayor and as a Congressman for the city. He is the first
Mindanaon President of the country.
Passed through the large sized door and
walked in a heavy fabric carpet of Malacañang, Digong together with his two
handsome sons and two elegant daughters made a grand entrance as the country
welcoming him with full of love and support as the new elected leader and as
the sixteenth President of the Philippines. Smartly dressed in a Barong Tagalog
with a design of the Philippine flag, he truly represents the country and not
just a mere color of a party. His oval shaped face with wrinkled skin and
stands archly, showing that he’s already aging. Also, you can see it through
his eyes that he is compassionate and loving to his beloved country. In his
speech, you can say that he is a man of his words. Whatever he will say, must
be put in action.
“A leader must be a terror to the few who
are evil in order to protect the lives and well-being of the many who are good.”
A quote from him expressing that behind of being a bad-ass, his inner self
showing a soft-hearted being that only wanted the greater goodness of his beloved
country, the Philippines.
