THE GIRL WHO WRITES AND KILLS…

“The pen is more powerful than the knife. The knife can kill you once, but the pen can kill you twice.”

This was my moderator on campus journalism said when we had our meeting last Friday. Technically speaking, I am a journalist in our school; a feature writer. Honestly, I didn't know how come I became one. I just found myself going to the office and simply registered myself there. Then poof! I am now a writer.

Well, I am not really expert when it comes to writing. But, I do love writing. It makes me express everything that pops up into my head. I want to express myself through writing without bothering how to impress people.

As of now, I am sitting beside the window while the wind whispers so softly. I am now trying to internalize the words that my moderator said, maybe because I was assigned to write about something; something that my heart speaks for. I am still confused what shall I write. And all of a sudden, I just saw a couple fighting or maybe arguing about something. For an instant, I remember everything.

It was month of December when I met a guy with a green eyes, tousled curly brown hair and sort of devilishly handsome face. In my thought, he must be something. I tried to keep my composure and letting his presence brushed off my mind but I just can’t; maybe because we’re just one seat apart.

I plugged in my earphones and just enjoyed seeing the view. It just so happened that the guy with the green eyes stood, went in front of me, extended his hand and uttered the words, “Hi! I am Art.”

I didn't know what to say. I was dumbfounded actually and got mesmerized in his deep green eyes for a second. I just realized that I am already extending my hand on his and that was where it all started.

We became friends as time comes and goes. We hang out and just living our life to the fullest. Months had passed and we were able to know deeply. And I just realized that I am already falling.

One year had passed after we met. We decided to go to the park that we had our first meeting. We sat on the bench just the way it was back then and the next thing that happened was really unexpected. He held my hand and looked into my eyes saying, “From the moment I first met you, everything changed. You changed me. And I’m thankful for that Angela. I love you more than you know and somehow that was everything. You are everything to me.”

What he said was the most wonderful words I've ever heard in my whole life. Meeting him was the best thing that ever happened to me. And that was 10 years ago.

I can still remember everything about him, about us. From the moment we first met, the time that we had our first date, our get-together, hang-outs, road trips, the moment we fell for each other up until the day we broke up. As far as I remember, I didn't know what was his reason of leaving me all behind. He just dumped me and went far away from me. And after that, I didn't know what happened to him already.

Before he left me, he wrote me a letter and he let me get it on the bench in the park where we used to sit. He said in his letter that, “I’m sorry but I don’t love you anymore. I found someone better than you. I only used you. I’m sorry.” And that made my heart broke into shattered pieces. His words killed me, so much.

The moment I finished reading his letter, he then showed up. I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what to feel. He said he’s sorry but I can’t feel the sincerity. He then walked away like it was the easiest thing to do.

After he left, I was in agony. I already don’t know how to live. I became a mess. I tried myself to move on and live my life again as if nothing really happened. Time came; I went to the park where I first met him. I sat on the bench and get the book in my bag. I read it and later found myself exhausted so I just put it back inside my bag.  I looked at everything in the park and I enjoyed the view. I get my camera and took pictures and suddenly there was that one picture which I found familiar. It’s the person in the picture I felt something. When I took a closer look at that person, I already know it was him; the one who got away. But what surprised me and made my jaw dropped was that he had someone with. Their hands were both intertwined and seems like there’s no space left between them. He was with another guy.

I left them and went home. It feels like I have already solved the puzzle I've been trying to figure out ever since. And now I already understand things. What he said to me before that I changed him maybe that was somehow true. Then after that, he said he found someone better than me, maybe that was really true that he found a guy that would complete him as a person. Now, everything is clear to me.

End of reminiscing.

I realized that people is really unpredictable. They change their minds so fast. One moment its “I love you” and “You’re my everything” and the next thing it’s “I don’t love you anymore” and “I found someone better than you”.

At this moment, I am staring by the window and I already know what to write. I want to write about him, about us. Although our story is not the happy ending type, I still want to write about it. Even if I still feel hatred towards him and I want to stab him with a knife but then I realized it will just be useless, a waste of time. I will just kill him using my paper and pen. I will kill him using words.

And it just so happened that I remember what my moderator on campus journalism said, “The pen is more powerful than the knife. The knife can kill you once, but the pen can kill you twice.”

Paragraph by Description

DUTERTE IN THE MAKING

Many people called him with different names; The Punisher, Duterte Harry, Digong, Rody, Mayor and Mr. President, just to name a few. We are of course talking about Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines.

Who would have thought that the not-so-tall, slouch, old-looking man whom we always see on the television and hear his name on the radio was among the longest-serving mayors in the Philippines and was Mayor of Davao City would turned into a president of our country. Maybe there are lots of people who judge and criticize President Duterte because of his personality and all but somehow looks can be deceiving, anyway. He is an eccentric type of person after all; an out-of-the-box person as he can be. He loved to do the unexpected and remarkable things. He goes beyond what is expected.

What people are trying to figure out is that, who is the real Duterte? Is he the man we usually see in the national television that curses a lot and whistles at female reporters? Is he the one who cracks jokes in the middle of the discussion and doesn't care at all if it is already offending to the person being talked to? Well, maybe yes, but we cannot judge him as quickly as that because he usually does those things. It’s his choice though on what he wants to do.

As we all know, President Duterte is a tough-talking person. He is frank and honest about who he is and what he believes in. He will tell people straightforward about something whether it may sound pretty good or not. He doesn't bother at all.

Other attitudes that our President have are being witty and clever. He is witty in a sense that whenever he has speeches and interviews, there is always humor and intelligence the way he delivers his message. He is also clever because whenever he talks, he is really quick in thinking and doesn't need any copy. Although he’s a “Bisaya”, he is fluent enough in English and he can learned easily how to cope with things around him.

The fearless, courageous and confident President Duterte never fails to remind the people of the Philippines to be responsible in all aspects of life. He is really determined to attain the change that everybody wants for. And he promised to have reforms in the system of our country through his six-year term of presidency. Change is coming, so they say.

We had found out what President Duterte did in Davao City when he was still a Mayor with the said place and served for more than 22 years. With that, he turned Davao City into the most peaceful city in Southeast Asia as what some organizations describe it and as the world’s fourth safest place that some surveys have concluded. Imagine how Davao City change for the better and turned into a prosper one because of President Duterte and with the help of the people of course; because of that, some people say he is the “Mayor of the Philippines” for he is the First President who is from Mindanao for the record.

We can therefore say that President Rodrigo Duterte, from now on, will be the father of our country, not just for his children, but for all of us. He may be a tough and strong leader but there is still this soft heart of his that can touch the lives of every Filipino people.

          Change has already come.
