A Good Leader
Rodrigo Roa Duterte was born on March 28, 1945. Also known in Davao City by the Name “Digong”
he was the former mayor of Davao City for 22 years, and was one of the most
longest-serving mayors in the Philippines.
And now serving the Philippines as the 16th President.
President Duterte is known in his ‘berdugo’ image in other
words executioner. That is why he was
ones called the punisher. He is feared by the drug Lords, criminals and corrupt
politicians of the country. He made Davao City one of the most safest City in
the world and now he is starting to wipe out the drugs in the Philippines
because for him drugs in one of the main reason
that pulls down a countries growth.
in Presedent duterte’s berdugo image he also has a soft
side, he is only angry to the criminals ang drug syndicate that damage the
country but very solf hearted in those who are in need. Like the childrens who has rare disease and
cancer patients.
generally President Duterte is good to those who are a law
abiding citizens and mad to those who are not.

Christian Badjao
I once interviewed a Sama Dilaut (Badjao) who converted into a Christian and became a pastor, everyone in their place called him Ptr. John but his badjao name is Hambis and he said to me that he didn’t
remember his age (Although he has been a Christian pastor for 30 year), after I introduce
myself, I sat beside him and he started telling his life before his conversion
to Christianity.
He told me that their tribe were
originally form Zamboangga TawiTawi and was living in boats known as “baluto”. Now he had six children; Mary
Grace, Shem, Sarah, Rebecca, Jonathan and Samuel, all had biblical names. In
their past beliefs they are called by the name “habay-habay” because they believed in small boxes like amulets.
When asked about his turning point
to Christianization he told me that it was when he got a serious illness. He
had skin disease. They tried various rituals and curing ceremonies and spent
much for it but nothing happened. Until he met Ptr. Aljare who was visiting
their place to conduct Christian services. Pastor John began attending services
and started knowing God. Pastor Aljare prayed over him, for his sickness that
he had been suffering for 5 year. Days went by, he was cured. His sickness was
gone. He believed that it was because of the prayers offered to him, of his faith and
because of God. From then Hambis or known as Ptr. John, decided to receive
Christ, got baptized, and became a Christian as well as his family. He even
became a Pastor. After the conversion, their family faced a lot of issues but
he remained still and surrendered those amulets and small boxes and all that
connects him to their leader to completely scythe his connection to “habay-habay”.
In the middle of our interview, Ptr.
John showed me some photos of their traditional boats. Photos that were all
captured by Americans and were given to them for future purposes. Together with
his family and other Sama people, Pastor John migrated here in Davao City. Some
were residing at Isla Verde Boulevard and in Ramon Magsaysay, Davao City. They
were being called as Badjao. Pastor John is now in his thirty years of being
Christian. He is living with his family near the shore and been conducting
services to certain places in the city.
We began walking along the shore as
I was about to end the interview. Then, I started taking pictures with him and
with the people there and thanked him for the time and for the opportunity he
has given me.
